What is No Smoking Day

Take the first Step - No Smoking Day - Wednesday 11 March 2009

Military No Smoking Day has proven itself year after year to be a cost-effective way of helping service personnel stop smoking. Two-thirds of military personnel who smoke would like to stop and, by using No Smoking Day and providing a military focus to this national campaign, many have successfully done so.

This year we have a lot to celebrate. Wednesday 10th March 2010, marks the 27th anniversary of the No Smoking Day campaign and the 10th anniversary of Military No Smoking Day being in operation. We want to help you make this year's event one to remember and encourage all personnel in The Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force and Defence Dental Service to participate.

This year, No Smoking Day will focus on the 'break free' theme and will explore the mental and physical restrictions smoking is often associated with. We aim to share tips we have gathered over the 10 years on planning a successful event, and provide smokers with access to information on how, why and where to give up.

Remember, this website is for YOU and aims to give YOU the opportunity to have your say and shape future Military No Smoking Day. Read our weekly smoker blog , gain support and friendship through our No Smoking Day Forum and help to improve No Smoking Day through our feedback questionnaire. And more importantly, by entering your Military No Smoking Day event into our annual Organiser of the Year Award competition, you could have your efforts recognised and win a prize. Last year, the Armed Forces in Gibraltar swept the board with an impressive display of creativity and were named Overall Winner in the 2009 Organiser of the Year Awards.

GOOD LUCK

Annie Owen

Armed Forces Smoking Cessation Co-ordinator.
